Do you find yourself worrying about situations in your life, your finances, your relationships, or your health? We all do at times.
Although, I trust God and know He is in control, the human side of me sometimes tends to worry. Jesus realizes that we all go through stressful situations. He wants to help us overcome our worry.
He even addressed this issue when he taught His followers in what we now call the Sermon on the Mount. He provided instructions for how Christians should live our daily lives and how our faith should guide our behavior, including how to deal with worry.
In the following passage, Jesus tells us how to not worry, but rather trust Him to provide all of our needs. This applies to all areas of our lives, including help with our problems and easing our anxieties.
“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” Matthew 6:25-34
Sometimes it is difficult to trust God with our heaviest burdens. Instead, we waste time worrying about what could happen tomorrow. Next time you are in a stressful situation, I encourage you to turn your worries into prayers. Commit to worrying less and trusting Jesus more.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:5-7

Have you ever found yourself waiting on an answer from God? I’m sure you have. We all have.
I vividly remember praying, seeking God’s word and listening to Him for answers during a difficult time. But I all I heard was silence. All I knew was to keep pressing on and trusting that God was at work even though I couldn’t see yet.
Then one day the fog lifted. Not only could I see God’s plan, but I was able to see several steps behind where God coordinated the smallest details to lead me to just the right place. God had been working behind the scenes moving mountains for weeks to bring all the parts together.
This situation reminded me that God loves us so much that he focuses on every small detail in our lives.
Even when we can’t see His hand moving, we can trust that God knows and sees every aspect of our lives. Rest assured through all of our circumstances, God’s attention and presence will never stray from us.
“I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade on your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life. The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore.” Psalm 121:1-8
God will never leave you or fail you. Our God never sleeps or slumbers, He holds all things in His hands, even you.

Every day we make choices: when to get up, what to wear, what to eat, and how to approach the day. Many choices are major decisions about the path our lives will follow. Our environment, education, goals, family and friends, and heroes all influence our choices.
As a parent, I made many decisions for my children in their early years. As they grow older, I am allowing them to begin making more choices on their own. I pray daily that my children will allow Christ to lead their path, but ultimately, they have to make choices for themselves.
Jesus offered the disciples a choice that would direct the rest of their lives. Jesus called to Simon and Andrew: “Come, follow me,” he said, “and I’ll show you how to fish for people” (Mark 1:17). Though it wasn’t always easy, the disciples committed to following Jesus.
God gives us free will to choose our direction in life. We can choose to pray daily, to read the Bible, to attend church, and allow God to direct our paths. When we learn to put our faith in God and to allow Him to guide our lives, we can have confidence in the choices we make.

Have you ever asked, “Why not me, Lord?” Sometimes life’s disappointments make us question God’s plans. Even though we may think that we did everything right, ultimately we don’t get the outcome we hoped for. Perhaps you didn’t get a job that you really wanted, or didn’t get selected to be on the team, or even experience rejection from a failed relationship.
In my life, when I look at the big picture, I can see God’s plans are always better than my own. He wants more than anything to restore our relationship with Him. So much so that he sent His Son to die in our place. All He requires is that we trust Him and let him direct our paths. When He shuts a door, there is a reason. He has something far greater behind another door.
"I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11
I encourage you to be thankful when God closes a door and be open to the new opportunity He has for you.

What’s the first thing you think about when you wake up in the morning? For most of us, when the alarm goes off we begin to think about the burdens of the day. Busy workload, upcoming meetings, traffic, and other responsibilities creep into our minds. Our to-do list overcomes our thoughts and if we’re not careful, those first few groggy minutes can define the rest of our day.
Often we focus on how we are going to get through the day, instead of entrusting the day to the Lord. How much better would our days be if we began them by giving the trials of the day over to Christ? The Lord is faithful and will be there every morning with enough new mercy to get us through today’s responsibilities, demands and pains.
“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. ‘The Lord is my portion,’ says my soul, ‘therefore I will hope in Him.’” Lamentations 3:22-24
I encourage you to fix your eyes on Jesus and cast your burdens on Him daily. He can handle them better than we ever could. This year make time to spend with God a priority. Spend time in His word daily and commit to praying throughout the day.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7

Can you believe that 2016 is about to come to a close? As we approach 2017, many people begin making New Year’s resolutions--goals they want to reach and things they want to achieve in the coming year. They hold forth the promise of change, of something different. Something exciting. Maybe even adventurous. But, ultimately, of hope.
Hope of spending more time with loved ones, getting out of debt or saving more money, giving up something (smoking, drinking, coffee, etc), losing weight, or trying something new.
These are among some of the top resolutions people make every year. There is nothing wrong with making resolutions. However, it is easy to see why so many keep failing at keeping their resolutions- misplaced hope. People put their hope in themselves.
Ultimately, not one of these resolutions provides lasting hope. Not one draws you closer to Christ. As you begin thinking about the New Year, I urge you to consider resolutions to deepen your relationship with Christ. Here are a few to consider.
• Read the Bible more
• Pray more
• Memorize Scripture
• Go to church regularly
• Increase generosity with regard to serving and tithing
This year, I hope you will join me in setting resolutions that will provide lasting hope.
“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23

While most of us look towards the Christmas season with excitement and anticipation, some experience an increased amount of stress, sadness and anxiousness. Families who don’t have the resources to buy Christmas presents can feel the pressure of seasonal expectations. Those who have lost loved ones may feel an overwhelming sense of loss and loneliness. In a season where most celebrate, many others feel more intensely the pain that life has brought them. I know this first hand, having grown up in a family where money was always an issue. Most of my adolescent years were spent being shuffled between a single mom and my grandparents. Often presents under the Christmas tree were scarce.
We all experience discouragement and loneliness at some point in our lives. Rather than dwelling on our circumstances, I encourage you to find things in your life to be thankful for this season. Even though you may be walking through a difficult time, God loves you and He is actively involved in your life.
If you’re feeling the holiday blues, give these feelings to Christ. If you’re feeling lonely, turn to Christ who came into this world in a manger, and died on a cross alone. If you’re feeling the pain of life’s unfairness, know that Christ was beaten and condemned for crimes He had not done. If you don’t have presents to give, find a way to give of yourself to others. While my mom and grandparents didn’t have much to give, the best memories I have was the time they spent with me.
Most importantly, if you have never received God’s greatest gift, His son Jesus Christ. I sincerely hope, you will seek His mercy and forgiveness this holiday season. He suffered and bled and died to save us all from our sins.
“In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.” 1 John 4:9-10
Seek Him as did the wise men. Come to Him as did the shepherds.

With Christmas only a few weeks away, I am reminded how commercialized the holiday has become. Everywhere you look, retailers are heavily pushing holiday sales. They remind us of the need to purchase the latest gadget or this year’s hottest toy for our loved ones.
We find ourselves focusing on making sure the decorations are perfect, sending out Christmas cards, purchasing gifts for friends and family, and planning our holiday gatherings. I am not saying that there is anything wrong with any of these.
However, in many cases, we become so busy planning the “perfect” Christmas, we often forget the true meaning. So, as we prepare our hearts this Christmas, take a moment to remember the miracle of Christ’s birth. I encourage you to look at Christmas a new way this year.
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of the LORD of hosts will do this.” Isaiah 9:6-7
Make Christ the center of this holiday season. Celebrate the birth, life, death, and resurrection of our Savior. He was born to die for our sins and paid the ultimate price for us.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
Ultimately, this is the true message of Christmas.

Over the past year, the media has inundated our lives with election coverage. Now the votes have been cast and the President-elect has been named. Regardless of your feelings toward our new President, we have a mandate from God concerning our leaders:
“Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that from which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established.” Romans 13:1
We must remember that God has ordained this presidency and is still in control. Even though a new President will be taking office soon, we need to remember that as Christ followers, our leader has not changed. God is still on the throne. He will continue to carry out His purposes in our nation.
I encourage everyone to pray for our country, especially our new President and the team he selects.

As I was sitting in traffic this morning, I found myself getting agitated that my commute was taking so long. Even after detouring to avoid traffic from a wreck, I got stuck behind another wreck. It was one of those mornings that things didn’t seem to be going my way.
Then it hit me, it could be so much worse. What if I had left for work a few minutes earlier? I could have been in one of those wrecks. We often overlook God’s protection in our lives. We selfishly think about the current situation that we are going through and fail to see how God has guided us.
Even when life doesn’t seem to be going the direction we planned, be encouraged that there is a purpose for God’s detour in your life. Instead of trying to find an alternate route, we should put our trust in God to navigate our life. As Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “I trust in the Lord with all my heart and lean not on my own understanding. In all my ways I acknowledge Him and He directs my paths.” God will never lead us where His grace cannot provide for us or His power cannot protect us.

It’s hard to believe that we are already over half-way through October. As the weather begins to get cooler here in Tennessee, I am reminded of seasons of change that we all go through in our lives. We all go through ups and downs, but no matter what the season, God can give us complete comfort and contentment.
In tough times when we go through health, money or family issues, we may wonder why we are going through such a difficult season. Be encouraged, God transforms us through the trials and circumstances in our life. It is during the tough seasons that we often grow the most in our character.
As the Bible says in Eccl. 3:1, “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.” If only we could embrace the seasons of our lives as willingly as we embrace the seasons of the year. It’s been said that the only thing that is constant is change; but unfortunately that’s what we tend to resist—especially if it means going outside our comfort zones. Although we don’t always know or understand God’s plan for us, if we trust in him he will lead us to hope.
God has planned the seasons of our lives with infinite wisdom. He has planned each one, knowing exactly what fruit is to be harvested during each time frame. He reminds us of this in Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
During the current season, let’s determine to count our blessings and be thankful that God has planned our life and leads us through each season. Instead of wishing we were in a different one, let’s embrace and enjoy the one we are in right now.

On June 21, I had the opportunity to attend a gathering of over 1,000 Christian leaders in New York to discuss issues relating to the upcoming Presidential election. The day was filled with insightful presentations from a variety of speakers, as well as a time of fellowship with other Christian leaders. After the event, NRBTV was given exclusive footage from the event. We are excited to bring you a glimpse into that day with presentations from Dr. George Barna, Ralph Reed, and Eric Metaxas.
One of my biggest takeaways from this event is that regardless of who takes the office in 2017, God will still be on the throne. It is imperative that the Christian voice be heard in this election, not because we want a certain candidate to win, but because we are called to be salt and light in culture. There are pros and cons to each candidate, but the message of the gospel is still central to all we do. We need to pray for our nation and stand firm in the beliefs we uphold.
A central part of NRBTV’s mission is to provide our viewers with programming that helps them think more deeply about their Christian faith and how to apply God’s Word to all spheres of life. You won’t want to miss this exclusive opportunity to learn more about issues of spiritual and cultural importance.
Don’t miss this special programing airing Thursday, September 15 at 8:00p ET & again at 12:00a ET on NRBTV.

In today’s society, we expect everything to be instantaneous. Pizza delivery in 30 minutes or less, microwaved meals within minutes, instant e-book deliveries, immediate information from the Internet. It seems like the faster our world goes, the more impatience we experience.
We often find ourselves getting impatient when we are stuck in traffic, waiting at the doctor’s office and even standing in line at a store. We often feel that waiting is time wasted.
But not all waiting is wasted time. Multiple times throughout the Bible, we are instructed to “wait on the Lord.” Even though at times, we don’t want to wait. When God calls us to wait, He does so intentionally.
If He is telling you “no” today, it may be because he has a better “yes” waiting for you. Don’t give up just because you don’t see anything happening today. Trust God for what He has for you. He made some of the greatest men of faith wait.
Don’t be discouraged if He makes you wait as well. He will come through for you, just like He came through for them. “Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD.” – Psalm 27:14
