Distracted

Posted in July 27, 2017

Do you find it difficult to disconnect from your mobile device or computer? How often during the day do we get distracted by Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, or check our email? Do you check these more than 5 times a day? More than 10 times? Can you go an entire day without checking your social media or email?

While many people say they are so busy that they can’t make time for quiet time, they still find time to check their messages. Consider if every time we checked our social media, we read our Bible instead. While you may not always have your Bible available, you can access scripture through the Bible app. If you don’t have the Bible app, I encourage you to take a few moments to download it. Then you will be able to take it with you everywhere. I challenge you this week to spend a few minutes that would have otherwise been scrolling through your social media feed to read scripture.

This world is full of distractions that pull us away from God, making it very difficult to stay focused on Him. When we become distracted from our faith, we become separated from God. Let’s purposefully strive towards focusing on God and His ways. We can do this by studying His word and praying for guidance. It’s not always easy, but by minimizing distractions and leaning on Him we can.

“Teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name.” Psalm 86:11
