Following God's GPS

May 24, 2017 ·

Traveling has become so much easier with the invention of the GPS. In the past, we had to rely on maps or when all else failed, stopped for directions. In most cases, the GPS provides step-by-step instructions to ensure that you don’t get lost.

Recently, I was traveling a familiar road and decided not to listen to the voice coming out of my GPS, because I thought I knew a better route. While eventually I arrived to the correct location, it ended up taking much longer than the route the GPS recommended. I ended up getting stuck in traffic that I could have avoided.

We often do the same thing in our Christian walk. God has provided us with a life GPS, the Bible. It has clear instructions/directions for every part of our life. God even gave each of us the Holy Spirit to remind and nudge us when our lives begin to get off track.

Yet, just like me during my recent trip, we often we feel like we know better than the GPS (Bible) and decide to follow our own route. The Bible instructs us to turn right and we turn left. We continuously ignore that little voice that keeps telling us to make a u-turn. And what happens?

We find ourselves wondering how our lives got turned upside down. Stuck in bad situations. And yes, God can get us back on track just like the GPS did in my car. But first we must give Him control and follow Him.

Keep steady my steps according to your promise, and let no iniquity get dominion over me.” Psalm 119:133

So be encouraged. Sometimes it may take longer than it should have, but you can get back on track and become everything God called you to be.
